Business System second draft ( final for assignment will be redone)

Here is the second draft of my business system.  For the presentation I am going to tweak the little things that the class had commented on when I presented it for the assignment. For example:
- color yellow needs to be a pure yellow
- Some of the jagedness of the type in the "newsletter" are hard to read, need to be more formatted, and entered in my standards manual
- the sparkle by the apple should be by all of the photos.
-  Print things double sided as apposed to attaching them together
- Make info on business card bigger, and card a bit smaller
- Make the inside where the product is displayed bigger, and more professional looking

rough draft of business system

Here it is.

The concept is that the envelope and the business card is an abstract outlined drawing of the bentobox and the letter on the back has outlined drawings of the pouches of veggies and fruits that are in the lunch box. I wanted to do just a general fun and expressive layout, but I guess to gear it towards the grocery stores and markets that would sell the product is a better idea. This is why I am trying to include the product. In the near future, along with the business system I will design a short booklet including instructions for the produce people of how to packages it, where the plastic for the bento box is coming from and the purpose of the product.

I am also going to do a version with actual images of the bento box, all decked out in its Blamapple festivities, but it has not come in the mail yet. In a day or so now...

Blamapple logo process

My logo that I am designing for the company that I decided to call Blamapple, is having a little trouble as of now,but consists of these ideas:

- Negative space is to act as a lolly pop stick for the apple symbol. This is to give a subtle connection between healthy fruit and vegetables and candy
- The bowls of the letters are to mimic the eye shapes of the characters that I developed
- The eye in the apple to to make it come alive, like the characters convince children to eat their fruits and vegetables because of their activation.

the colors are what I am struggling with as of now. The actual lunch boxes are going to be very colorful as they are, and i don't want to overpower them.

Create Your Own Company- Health

Create Your Own Company: HEALTH

As I was thinking about what I wanted to do for this project, one of the first ideas I came up with was something related to healthy eating among children. I want to make something fun for children to use or have while they eat their fruits and vegetables at the same time.

My sister lives in Europe, and because of that I go there often. One of the biggest cultural differences that I always notice in Sweden and am envious of is how healthy their lifestyles are. I see children all the way to teens walking down the street not eating a bag of chips but eating an apple for a snack. The way I see children eat in the US is scary. The chemicals and cancer causing preservatives that children are allowed to put into their bodies is straight up dangerous.

Due to this problem, what I figure is there has to be a product that is appealing to children in a way where they are almost buying a toy, a product that catches their eye. Graphic design is incredibly influential especially among growing children. For example, if my product included a plush toy with the fruits and vegetables, or is cased in a cool lunch box they may not realize what they are supporting until they used it and may change their idea about fruits and vegetables. Besides, what parent can deny their children their fruits and veggies?

My research has brought me to an idea influenced by japanese design. When I researched lunch boxes I ran across some japanese lunch boxes that are re-useable with removable trays. I want to make a product similar where the first lunch box that you buy includes a plush and a lunch box as well as the fruits and vegetables, while there are refillable packages of the fruits and vegetables on the same display.

The refill packages of fruits and vegetables will be simplistically packaged with the same logo and style as the lunch boxes. They will be physically packaged by the produce section in the grocery stores they are distributed to. Most grocery stores have a packaging section within the store. And the lunch box will be made of recycled plastic by a plastic manufacturing factory in Lindstrom Minnesota. I also, along with lunch boxes want to carry a similar product, but a snack case that has refills of nuts and dried fruits.

The characters would be playful like the ones above, with a message related to fruits and vegetables, and healthy eating. There will be more than one character and more than one version of lunch boxes and snack cases. Also the characters will be appealing to boys and girls aging from 4-9 years old.

Solution- Re-Design logo Dunn Bros

Here is my proposed solution to the Dunn Bros logo. Because Dunn Bros is a franchise I wanted to give the owners a set of word marks and symbols that they could mix and match that best individualizes their location, while still identifying as Dunn Bros.

I used a cursive, urban font to make the logo look more classy or prestige. Dunn Bros is a quality cafe, thus the logo should have some class to it as well.  The symbol of the simplistic coffee cup and the drop and the bean were to symbolize the  wholistic quality that roasting one's own bean adds to the taste of the coffee.

This I should work on are leading and kerning of the font. The font was a font I found on the internet so it naturally has its imperfections.  This is also the main thing that people criticized in the critique.

Dunn Bros Coffee Logo:
I have chosen to re-design the Dunn Bros Coffee logo. My reasoning is because I personally think that the font they used for their word mark appears childish and underminding. I work at a Dunn Bros, and their professional goal of roasting, selling and promoting an international view of coffee beans is not shown in their logo. Their prestige and wonderful tasting coffee doesn't connect with a type face that looks like it would me on the set of the Flintstones.

They also don't have a symbol attached to their logo. Because Dunn Bros is a franchise, a company that is owned by independent owners, they are all different. Each location seemed to be built in some of the oldest buildings of Minneapolis, and some of them have been transformed buildings. Due to each locations unique quality, and the franchises richness, I want to make a set of logos that are united. Each owner can choose which logo or word mark best represents their location, but still is strongly identifiable to the Dunn Bros companies.
